Pioneering Hair Transplant Surgeon Dr. David Seager

In 1989, Dr. David Seager founded the Seager Hair Transplant Clinic at the Centenary Hospital in Scarborough.

For almost 30 years now, we have been exclusively dedicated to the art of hair transplantation, performing over 15,000 surgeries at our clinic.

Because of our tremendous amount of experience we have been able to refine and improve our protocols and surgical techniques to achieve the most natural-looking and consistently excellent results possible.

There are three main techniques that Dr. David Seager popularized in our clinic; the one pass technique, stereoscopic dissection, and the stick & place method.

The Stick and Place Method

In the stick and place method, a follicle from the donor area is placed in the recipient site created following the creation of an incision at this site.

Stick and place hair graft implantation method

As opposed to convention methods, these incisions are made immediately before implantation, which limits the amount of bleeding and possibly reduces trauma to the scalp compared to conventional methods of implantation1.

This method can be aided by an implanter, a small mechanical device that creates an incision and implants the follicle simultaneously1.

3. Stringent Quality Control

Every step of your hair transplant will be performed to the highest possible standards and with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring unrivalled results. Our doctors and team are committed to achieving and upholding the highest standards in hair transplantation.

4. Density and Artistic Design

Our refined surgical techniques and experience allow us to place the hair grafts in incredibly close proximity, allowing us to achieve a finished density in just one session, and by combining our dense packing surgical techniques with our artistic ability we can provide undetectable results.

5. Personalised Procedures

Each and every case of hair loss is unique and therefore treatment plans are tailored to meet your specific requirements. Whether FUT, FUE, small or large sessions, at Seager we take an individual approach to each case knowing that each one has to be performed to the best of our abilities.

6. We aspire to be the "Gold Standard"

During a hair transplant conference in Australia, an eminent colleague described Dr. Seager's work as "The Gold Standard to which we should all aspire", and "what most of us are doing is a compromise for the sake of speed and economy". He summed up his remarks about Dr. Seager by referring to his practice as "ideal" and the results of his procedures as "excellence". Although Dr. Seager has since passed he has left us with a tremendous legacy, and our focus has and will always be to live up to that legacy and aspire to always be The "Gold Standard" by which all others are measured.

Most Frequently Asked Hair Loss Questions

Why Do Some People Lose Their Hair?

Androgenic Alopecia (Genetic Hair Loss) is caused by a combination of genetics and hormones called androgens. It affects both sexes but is usually noticed in men earlier then women. Statistically by the age of 50, 50 percent of men and 40 percent of women will have noticed some hair loss.

What is a Hair Transplant?

Hair transplantation is a process through which the hair follicles or ‘grafts’ (nature’s building blocks for hairs) are removed from the back and sides of the head by either FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) or FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). These donor grafts are then moved to areas that are thinning or bald.

The ultimate goal of a hair transplant is to provide patients with a completely natural looking way to restore their hair that will last a lifetime.

How Does a Hair Transplant Work?

We remove the grafts from genetically encoded areas of the scalp that is resistant to hair loss. This process provides the only permanent and guaranteed method for replacing hair. Hair transplants are equally successful for both men and women suffering from genetic or patterned hair loss.

Am I a candidate For a Hair Transplant?

Most people with Androgenetic Alopecia and some people with other conditions that cause hair loss can benefit from hair transplantation. Some other conditions do not lend themselves to hair transplantation. The only way to be certain is to meet with one of our doctors for an evaluation of your hair loss and detailed discussion of your options.

How long does a hair transplant last?

Generally speaking a transplanted hair should continue to grow for life, meaning that a hair transplant should last a lifetime. Depending on your genetic predisposition and medical family history you may continue to loose your original hair in the horseshoe area at the top of the head, but the transplanted hair should never fall out.

As you continue to age you may decided or require a follow up hair transplant session to replace the orginal hair which may fall out. We also advise our clients to continue to do what they can in terms of using over the counter hair loss remedies to amelorite the further progression of hairloss.

Is an FUE hair transplant painful?

When correctly performed, the FUE hair transplant procedure should be virtually pain-free. As with any surgical procedure, there is always the potential for transitory discomfort; however, generally speaking, the process is pain-free and very similar in discomfort to a typical dental appointment.

The scalp is anaesthetized and should be completely numb throughout the entire procedure. Recovering is also less painful and faster than recovering from the more typical hair transplant methods.

Can you tell if someone has had a hair transplant?

The modern-day hair transplant is refined and delicate. The micro hair grafts that are used in the modern-day procedure consist of one or two hairs each. It would require an expert to spot any sign of hair transplantation, and they would need to inspect your scalp up close and very carefully. It is very difficult to spot anything that would differ from your naturally occurring non-transplanted hair.

The Seager Hair Transplant Centre has been the Canadian pioneer in developing the highly refined hair transplant procedure we perform today.

Dr David Seager dedicated his life to refining the process and it is on his great shoulders that our clinic stands on today. You will only find a more refined, carefully curated hair transplant procedure.
